Me, Peter Marples, and my Cancer journey
My name is Peter Marples and I have recently been diagnosed with Cancer. I am not alone, indeed more than 40% of people will suffer with Cancer at some time in their lives, and that means nearly everyone knows someone or is impacted by it.
Who is impacted?
Those impacted by a cancer diagnosis include the following:
- The person diagnosed with cancer
- Spouses or partners
- Children
- Grandchildren or Great-grandchildren
- Parents and Grandparents
- Friends
- Business associates and colleagues
The good news is that survival rates are improving all the time (even though the UK doesn’t rank as one of the best) but the number of people getting Cancer is also increasing. Its funny that new research identifies new Cancers where quite possibly in the past people will have simply died and not be diagnosed.
This site is aimed at helping people
It is about sharing experiences of the journey and how to deal with it. Some hints and tips about my own journey to start but hopefully others will come forward and share too. I know it is a very personal thing but the more we share, the more people benefit.
Our Socials and Building a Community
Now I am a little too old for the Socials but I recognise that the Social Media Channels will be the vehicle for much of the content. I am indebted to Lee Marples at think3 who is providing his invaluable support and also my wife Sarah and children, Samantha and Thomas, and Step Daughters Sian and Bethany and all of their partners for their support.
I will be sharing the Journey – it won’t be sugar coated, I will tell it as it is – but it will not be depressing – there will be highs and lows and tips from my experience and hopefully others.
I will focus to start on:
- The journey of those that have Cancer
- The impact on families and what to discuss and plan
- The impact on finance and the uncertainty that arises
- The impact on employment and business and some tips and tricks
- What planning can you take before Cancer hits you more
I don’t have all the answers – please reach out and share your journey with me and contact me at peter@supportwithcancer.com or simply pick up the telephone and call me on 07979857438
